AI-Buzzwords you should know – Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Neural Networks

AI-Buzzwords you should know – Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Neural Networks

Okay...

Take a breath.

We can do this.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a buzzword. A lot of people talk about it, but only a few understand.

We feel you.

AI is a branch of Computer Science, it includes everything from simple rule-based systems to highly advanced neural networks. Its goal is to create machines that can replicate human-like intelligence.

In which way does AI mimic us?

  • Reasoning: Making logical deductions and solving problems.
  • Learning: Improving performance through data and experience.
  • Pattern Recognition: Identifying trends and relationships in data.
  • Inference: Making predictions based on available information.
  • Natural Language Understanding: Comprehending and generating human language.
  • Contextual Awareness: Understanding the context of interactions.

So, now that you understand, what AI is trying to achieve. Let’s look at the other buzzwords you might have heard and never understood: Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Neural Networks.

Machine Learning (ML) is a subset of AI. Through the development of algorithms and statistical models computer systems are enabled to automatically learn and make decisions or predictions based on patterns in data and experience.

Great explanation... but you might be wondering, "What exactly is an algorithm?"

Put simply, an algorithm is a set of step-by-step instructions designed to solve a specific problem or accomplish a particular task.

Think of it like a recipe: just as a recipe guides you through the process of cooking a meal, an algorithm guides a computer through a series of logical operations to achieve a desired outcome. For example, when you search for information on the internet, search engines use algorithms to sort through vast amounts of data and present you with the most relevant results.

Okay, you got this. AI is a field of computer science. Its goal is to mimic human intelligence like reasoning, learning, or inference. Developers create algorithms that enable computer system to automatically learn and make decisions based on data.

So what exactly is Deep Learning (DL) and what are Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs)?

Deep Learning is a subset of ML that involves the use of Artificial Neural Networks.

Artificial Neural Networks are computational models inspired by the human brain's structure and function. They consist of interconnected layers of artificial neurons, each layer processing and transforming data. DL and ANNs are often used for tasks like image recognition, speech recognition, and natural language understanding.

Deep Learning is chosen with e.g. complex patterns, big data, high accuracy requirements.

Wow.

Great job.

You’re all set on the buzzwords: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Neural Networks.
